What is Power Pods?
Power pods is an app implementation of a transformative justice community building tool to serve as an alternative to policing. The main function of the app is for users to digitally organize their support system as a tool to use during violent, harmful, and abusive situations whether they are a survivor, bystander, or the person that did the harm.
Power pods provides you tools to help you build your community
The word “pod” refers to a specific term in transformative justice. It describes the kind of relationship between people who would reach out to each other for support during and to prevent violent, harmful, and abusive experiences (per Bay Area Transformative Collective). Power pods is an application of this concept into a social media framework. To learn more about pods, click here
In this app, you can organize these different groups of people, message each other, share your set of skills, and share resources like advice, action plans, information on helpful organizations, etc.

Why should you use the app?
You should use this app to connect with friends, allies, and organizations that are willing to help you tackle and prevent different issues and situations you typically deal with on your own. Being able to create, map, and manage your community helps gives you a sense of security and the skills you need to live a safe and fulfilling life in world threatened by police brutality and contagious illnesses, that expects individuals to tackle their problems alone or to seek potentially unsafe alternatives.
This app will help you maintain and develop your sense security and learn how resilient communities can overcome large obstacles.
How to use Power Pods
Power Pods has functionality similar to social media applications like Instagram. There are tabs that let you access the different functionality: home page to look at the posts that your contacts post, profile page to view and edit your own profile, search page to find other users, and messaging to send messages to your contacts.
To use this app, you can download the most recent version using testflight ios app beta testing. You need to create an account and you will be directed to a tutorial that will teach you how to use the different features of the app. To set up your profile you can navigate to your profile page and edit your name and description in settings. You can then add posts and skills to help users who view your account learn if you can be a member of their community. Below are images from the tutorial that instructs new users on how to use the different features of the app. You can also access this tutorial at any point by opening the settings page.
